Any resident of Baldwin County may apply to the Leadership Baldwin County program, however, you should consider the following before you complete and submit an application form.
Committment
Leadership Baldwin Coutny requires a serious commitment of time and energy. Monthly sessions, lasting from early morning until mid-afternoon, are held once a month from October through April. Attendance is mandatory at the overnight Opening Retreat in October. Graduation is in May. At least 80% attendance is mandatory for the monthly day-long sessions in order to graduate from the program.
Tuition
Tuition for the 2009-2010 class session has not been established. Tuition for the 2007-2008 class was $750 per participant. If selected, tuition is typically due at the beginning of September. The tuition covers all program materials, meals and refreshments on meeting days, chartered transportation, the opening retreat and graduation. Tuition is non-refundable. Flexible payment plans are available upon request. Leadership Baldwin County is a self-sustaining program.
Scholarships
Partial scholarships are available and the applications for scholarship assistance may be requested on the program application. The Harry Still Scholarship, the Steve McMillan Scholarship and the P. Grey Cane, Jr. Scholarship are among the sources of funds. Financial assistance is based on financial need. Leadership Baldwin County accepts donations to the scholarship fund. The scholarship fund is administered through Baldwin County United, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
Selection
Completion of an application does not guarantee acceptance into the program. Selections will be made from all applications received and class size is limited. A confidential Selection Committee will review the applications and select the members of the 2009-2010 Leadership Baldwin County Class. Decisions are usually announced in August.
Selection Criteria:
Individuals who have attained a top leadership position within their business, volunteer or civic organization or who have the potential for advancement to top leadership positions.
Individuals with excellent potential to play a significant role in the community’s future.
Individuals who demonstrate commitment and interest in serving in the community.
Individuals who represent a cross-section of the community including business, government, non-profit agencies, community service volunteers and professions.
Individuals who represent the various geographic areas and ethnic groups in the county.
Individuals who will commit to one full day a month for seven months, plus an opening overnight retreat in October and graduation in May.
